Fatherly Advice: The Key to Our Professional Success

Fatherly Advice: The Key to Our Professional Success

On Father's Day, we reflect on the unique influence fathers have on our lives. At Grant Thornton Suriname, we asked our employees to look back on the most important lessons they learned from their fathers and how these lessons have impacted their professional lives. These personal stories demonstrate the power of fatherly wisdom and show how these insights can shape not only our personal but also our professional success.

In this blog, we proudly share the inspiring story of our Risk and Quality analyst, Lennox Relyveld. He illustrates how his father's wise lessons have contributed to his success and growth in his professional life.

Lennox Relyveld – Risk and Quality analyst

Growing up, I always looked up to my dad. He had a way of making even the most daunting tasks seem manageable, always emphasizing the importance of seeing things through to the end and having the courage to take risks. Two of the most valuable lessons he taught me were to finish what you start and to take a leap of faith when necessary.

These lessons have stayed with me throughout my life. In school, finishing what I started meant tackling assignments early and avoiding the stress of last-minute work. Taking leaps of faith meant enrolling in new opportunities I wasn’t sure I could handle. In my professional career at Grant Thornton and the NGOs I manage, these principles have helped me maintain a strong work ethic and seize new opportunities.

Of course, there were times when sticking to this advice was challenging. There were moments of doubt, fear, and temptation to procrastinate. But remembering my dad’s lessons helped me stay on track.

In conclusion, the lessons of finishing what you start and taking leaps of faith have profoundly impacted my life. These principles have guided me through various challenges and achievements, all thanks to my dad.

Lennox’s story underscores the lasting impact of the lessons he learned from his father. At Grant Thornton Suriname, we value these invaluable insights and the way they enrich our work environment.

Happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads!
